Lorena Zárate (Habitat International Coalition): Mexico City for and by the People

In this talk, Lorena Zárate, historian and president of Habitat International Coalition, reviews the urban movements and struggles that have shaped Mexico City’s political agendas and public policies, in particular those related to housing, public space and mobility. In 2017, Mexico City adopted its own constitution, which is one of the first in the world to incorporate its inhabitants’ “Right to the City.” Zárate assesses the city’s achievements and challenges, as well as the lessons that other cities can learn from Mexico City’s 2016 New Urban Agenda.
